Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Hydrographic Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Horsham. This is a unique opportunity for skilled professionals who require visa sponsorship to work in the UK. As a Hydrographic Surveyor at Fugro, you will be instrumental in conducting crucial marine surveys, collecting and processing high-quality bathymetric and other hydrographic data. Your work will support a diverse range of projects, from offshore renewable energy developments to port and harbour infrastructure, ensuring accuracy and compliance with international standards. You will be expected to work both in the office and extensively in the field, often in challenging marine environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive hydrographic surveys in accordance with project specifications and international standards (e.g., IHO, IMCA).
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain various hydrographic survey equipment, including multibeam echosounders, single beam echosounders, magnetometers, and positioning systems.
- Collect, process, and interpret bathymetric, sub-bottom, and side-scan sonar data.
- Perform quality control and assurance checks on all collected data.
- Prepare detailed survey reports, charts, and deliverables.
- Work effectively as part of a field team, often in challenging offshore conditions.
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Liaise with clients and project managers to ensure project objectives are met.
- Provide technical support and mentoring to junior staff.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Oceanography, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrable experience in hydrographic surveying, preferably in an offshore environment.
- Proficiency in hydrographic data acquisition and processing software (e.g., QINSy, Hypack, Caris HIPS/SIPS).
- Strong understanding of survey principles, geodetics, and positioning systems (GNSS, INS).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Hold a valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel extensively and work offshore for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Professional certification (e.g., RICS Hydrographic Surveying certification).
- Experience with specific Fugro proprietary software and systems.
- Knowledge of geophysical survey techniques.
- Experience working on offshore wind farm projects.
- Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for data analysis.
