Job Description
NPR is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Audio Editor to join our dynamic digital news and content team. In this role, you will be instrumental in shaping the sound of our digital offerings, from podcasts and web features to breaking news segments. We are looking for an individual with a keen ear for detail, strong technical skills in audio editing, and a passion for news and storytelling. This position offers flexible hours, allowing you to manage your work-life balance effectively while contributing to high-quality journalistic content.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit, mix, and master audio segments for daily news broadcasts, podcasts, and digital platforms.
- Ensure all audio content meets NPR's high standards for technical quality and editorial accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with producers, reporters, and content creators to achieve desired sound and storytelling objectives.
- Perform sound design, remove background noise, and enhance vocal clarity.
- Manage audio assets, including archiving and organizing files.
- Adhere to strict deadlines for breaking news and regular programming.
- Stay updated on audio editing software, techniques, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, or Logic Pro.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in audio editing, preferably in news or media production.
- Strong understanding of audio principles, mixing, and mastering.
- Excellent ear for detail and an ability to identify and correct audio imperfections.
- Familiarity with journalistic ethics and best practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Audio Production, or a related field.
- Experience with remote recording setups and best practices.
- Knowledge of NPR's programming and editorial style.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS).
