Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Military Base Nurse to join our team, providing essential healthcare services to service members and authorized beneficiaries at a federal installation near New Haven, CT. This is a civilian position under a stable federal contract, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to military readiness and well-being without direct military service. The successful candidate will deliver a broad range of nursing care, working within a structured and supportive environment. This role requires clinical excellence, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a diverse patient population.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by medical providers, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Assist with minor medical procedures and emergency care, maintaining proficiency in life support techniques.
- Educate patients and their families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with federal regulations and OptumServe policies.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, other nurses, and support staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control standards.
- Participate in continuing education and training relevant to military healthcare and civilian nursing practices.
- Provide compassionate and culturally sensitive care to all patients.
Required Skills
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut or a compact state.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical setting (e.g., acute care, family medicine, emergency department).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Previous experience working with military populations or in a federal healthcare facility.
- Experience in primary care, urgent care, or emergency medicine settings.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
