Job Description

Join the Ethan Allen design team as a Part-time Design Assistant in our Stamford studio, with opportunities for field-based work. This role is perfect for an aspiring designer eager to gain hands-on experience supporting our lead designers in creating stunning interiors. You will assist with various stages of the design process, from client consultations and material sourcing to presentation preparation and project coordination. This is a dynamic role requiring creativity, organizational skills, and a passion for design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead designers with client consultations and project meetings, taking notes and contributing ideas.
  • Prepare design presentations, including mood boards, floor plans, and material selections (fabrics, finishes, furniture).
  • Source and organize samples, catalogs, and other design resources from vendors and our design center.
  • Coordinate logistics for client deliveries, installations, and field visits as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and tidy design studio environment, managing sample libraries and display areas.
  • Conduct research on design trends, products, and services to support ongoing projects.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling appointments and preparing project documentation.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of interior design principles and aesthetics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for field visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of an Interior Design program.
  • Familiarity with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service environment.
  • Portfolio showcasing design projects (academic or personal).
