Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Hospital Porter. This Full-Time position is perfect for someone looking to start a career in healthcare, offering comprehensive training to equip you with all the necessary skills. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in the smooth operation of our medical center, ensuring patients, equipment, and vital supplies are moved safely and efficiently throughout the facility. Your dedication will directly contribute to a positive patient experience and support our medical staff in delivering exceptional care. No prior experience is required; we provide full training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients via wheelchairs, gurneys, or beds between departments (e.g., wards, operating theatres, diagnostic imaging) ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Move medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and patient belongings as required, following established protocols.
  • Assist with patient transfers to and from beds, gurneys, and chairs, ensuring proper body mechanics and safety procedures.
  • Respond promptly to requests from nursing staff and other departments for portering services.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of all transport equipment (wheelchairs, gurneys).
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including infection control guidelines.
  • Provide basic assistance and reassurance to patients during transport.

Required Skills

  • Ability to push, pull, and lift heavy loads (patients, equipment) frequently throughout the shift.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of empathy and compassion for patients.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures and willingness to learn more.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Basic First Aid certification.
