Job Description
Join the dedicated team at Bibliothèque de Québec as a Library Support Aide. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to contribute to the orderly and efficient operation of our library, playing a crucial role in making our vast collection accessible to the public. Key Responsibilities
- Shelve, sort, and organize library materials accurately and efficiently according to established classification systems.
- Assist patrons with locating books and other resources within the library.
- Maintain the neatness and order of shelves, ensuring a welcoming environment.
- Process incoming and outgoing library materials, including checking in/out items.
- Repair damaged books and materials as needed, or prepare them for professional repair.
- Assist with inventory tasks and collection maintenance projects.
- Provide basic information and directional assistance to library users.
- Support librarians and other staff with various administrative and operational tasks.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to sort alphabetically and numerically with accuracy.
- Physical stamina to lift and move library materials, and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to public service.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a library, retail, or customer service setting.
- Familiarity with library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
- Proficiency in both French and English (bilingualism is an asset in Quebec).
