Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Burn Unit Nurse to join our specialized Hospital Wing. This is a critical role offering crisis pay, reflecting the urgency and demand for experienced professionals dedicated to burn care. You will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with various degrees of burn injuries, from admission through recovery. This includes acute medical management, wound care, pain management, and patient/family education. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background, excellent critical thinking skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining a patient-centered approach. Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans for burn injury patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, accurately documenting all actions.
- Perform advanced wound care, including debridement, dressing changes, and infection prevention strategies.
- Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, and laboratory results, reporting critical changes promptly.
- Manage pain effectively through pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
- Educate patients and their families on burn care, recovery processes, and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers.
- Maintain a sterile environment and adhere to strict infection control protocols.
- Provide emotional support and psychological comfort to patients and their families.
- Respond to emergency situations and initiate appropriate life-saving measures.
- Document all patient interactions, observations, and interventions thoroughly and accurately.
Required Skills
- Current RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of experience in critical care, emergency medicine, or med-surg
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Proficiency in wound care and sterile techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a high-stress environment
- Compassionate and empathetic patient care approach
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN degree
- Previous experience in a burn unit or specialized trauma unit
- PALS certification
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic
- Certification in Burn Nursing (CBRN)
